Mr. Vicente S. Estevez's Obituary
Vicente Santiago Estevez was born on July 25, 1925, in Havana, Cuba to José Díaz and Maria Estevez. Vicente passed away on December 7, 2015 at 90 years old in Houston, TX.
He was a beautiful man who devoted himself to serving others, a gentle soul with a strong faith, and a generous man to friends and family. Those who knew him, knew how proud he was of his 3 boys and how devoted he was to his sweet wife Mireya. In addition to being a professor at the University of Houston, Vicente received a doctorate in Biochemistry and did research work for the state of Texas for many years with 17 scientific journal publications to his name. He was known for being extremely analytical as well as creative. He absolutely loved photography and especially when the kids and grand kids started coming, he had an even greater excuse to take thousands and thousands of pictures. One of his more creative endeavors was when he developed a photograph that appeared to have young Vincent, Jr. sitting inside one of his laboratory beakers. His faith in God was extremely important to him and his wife. He faithfully served his church for 23 years as a volunteer and was deeply revered by many in his congregation.
Vicente was preceded in death by his siblings Armando, Juan, Aurora, Leonord and Marina; his wife Mireya and middle son Luis. He is survived by his siblings Concha, Tony; his oldest son Vincent and daughter-in-law Georgia; his youngest son Ruben; his granddaughters Dominique and Macy who brought joy and love to him towards the latter part of his life; and many nieces and nephews.
The Estevez family will receive friends and extended family on Saturday, December 12, from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM at SouthPark Funeral Home, 1310 North Main St., Pearland, TX 77581. The funeral service will be held immediately following from 3:00 PM until 4:00 PM in the Chapel of SouthPark Funeral Home. The burial will take place following the service at the SouthPark Cemetery.
