Susan Rae Wiley's Obituary
Susan Rae Wiley nee Clem passed at 58 on Tuesday after a short, but fierce battle with cancer. She was a loving wife, an accomplished Electrical Engineer, an avid reader, a cat lover and a skilled craftsperson. Among those surviving her are a number of people she held close. Notable are husband of 31 years James E. Wiley, stepson Nicholas J. Wiley, aunt and uncle Gelea and Larry Clem, her foundling tabby cat Maxwell and a number of good friends. Her mother and father are both deceased and she has no siblings.
Susan came from humble beginnings in the Houston area, but with her mother’s support attained her engineering degree and had a successful professional career in the petrochemical industry and related fields. In the end, she became skilled in facilitating safety risk assessments for operators around the world. In addition, along with her husband James she was able to travel extensively, visiting locations on all six inhabited continents. This gave her a perspective that can only be attained by such broad travel.
Susan was a strong progressive and advocated for such causes as women’s rights, the unrestricted right to vote, free and fair elections and civil rights. She was a member of the Pearland Democrats Club and supported progressive candidates both in Texas and elsewhere in the US.
A celebration of Susan’s life will take place at a future date a yet to be determined. She would have appreciated donations to the American Cancer Society or to MD Anderson in lieu of other recognition.
