Nathan Zainfeld, Jr. Obituary April 27, 2020.
Nathan Zainfeld, Jr., age 90 of Brookside Village passed away peacefully at home on April 27, 2020. He was born to the late Mildred Smith Zainfeld and Nathan Zainfeld, Sr. on January 24, 1930, in Galveston, Texas. He served in the U.S. Army, stationed in Germany in the 1950s – Post World War II. Upon returning to the United States, Nathan married Ruth “Ruthie” Rosa Brem on October 9, 1953. Ruthie left her home in Lucerne, Switzerland, traveled to Dallas, Texas to marry Nathan. Together they raised five wonderful children. Nathan was very proud of all five of his kids.
Nathan is preceded in death by his parents, beloved wife, Ruthie, and daughter, Vivian Annette Howell. He is survived by his sister, Nathlie Zainfeld, 4 of his 5 children, Rebecca Anna, David Emil, Richard Joseph, and Amber Ludovika, 15 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, and his beloved dog, Little Girl.
He graduated from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas with a master’s degree in Bio-medical Electrical Engineering in 1957. Nathan worked as an engineer for M.D. Anderson Hospital, and several NASA subcontractors from 1957 until he retired. He was particularly proud of his contributions to the Apollo Space Program in the 1960s.
Nathan loved all types of dancing including Country Western, Ballrooom, Jitter-bug and West Coast Swing. But his all-time favorite was Whip dancing. He was an active member of several dance clubs including Strictly Whip Dance Club and Bay Area Whip Dance Club until he danced his last dance, the day after his 90th birthday. Nathan also enjoyed caring for his houses, mowing lawns and driving his tractor.
Members of his family mourn the lost chances to experience love and compassion with Nathan as brother, father, grandfather, and great-grand father. As this door closes and we turn the page to a new chapter in our family’s history, we say good-bye to this man who so deeply touched us all. His life etched tracks into our hearts and will influence our life paths and ultimately influence the direction of many generations to come. We loved him and we will miss him.
