Mrs. Melinda K. Hoyer's Obituary
Melinda Kim Upchurch-Hoyer, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully on Monday August 22nd at 9:55 pm. Melinda is the daughter of Gordon Upchurch and Pat Upchurch-Gilbreath of Houston, and was born in Jonesboro, Louisiana on the 23rd day of August, 1957. Melinda is preceded in death by her brother Gordon Jennings Upchurch of San Diego, California and survived by her husband Rick L. Hoyer of Houston Texas. Also surviving are her children; daughters Reema and husband Jeff Forster of Kingwood, Texas, Leila and husband Adrian Markiw of New Haven, CT., Chasity Horton of Springfield, Mo., Christen and husband Shaun Murphy of Kingwood, Texas and MaryAnn Hoyer of Houston, Texas. Surviving sons are Rick Hoyer II of Whittier, California and Chad and wife Kara Hoyer of Springfield, Mo. Melinda is survived by 5 siblings, Pamela and husband Fred Chambers of Kansas City, Kansas, Karla and husband Mike Hoy of League City, Texas, Phillip and wife Arlene Upchurch of Denver, Co., Lisa and husband Gene Barnette of Sugarland, Texas, and Bob and wife Leslie Upchurch of League City, Texas. Melinda is survived by many nieces and nephews and 14 grandchildren.
Melinda and her family moved to Houston from Louisiana in 1968 and later attended Deer Park High School and Wharton Junior College.
Melinda received the “Opera Guild” award and graduated Oral Roberts University with a Vocal Performance Degree in 1995. In 1996 Melinda spent a year in Vienna, Austria where she focused on private study. Melinda was an accomplished violinist, a song writer, composer and created incredible portraits by pencil.
On July 8th 2016, Melinda was diagnosed with Glioblastoma and 46 days later she is gone, Melinda maintained her courage all the while praying for our Father God to take her home quickly.
Melinda was an ordained minister whose ministry was borderless, Melinda spread the good news with word and music at every opportunity and touched many who were hurting as can be witnessed on U-Tube under MKHoyer, Melinda K Hoyer or Bibleway Temple. Melinda recorded 3 Christian/Gospel CD’s and performed many solo appearances as a part of her normal routine. Melinda believed in the power of prayer and never lost her faith, even to the end.
