A Tribute to the Legacy of My Sister and Spiritual Mentor
Words cannot express the deep pain I feel at the passing of my big sister. Even though she was ten years older than I, Leandre was more than a sister, she was my friend, my confidant, my spiritual mentor, my encourager, my advisor, my second mother. From my earliest years I loved spending time with her. Being in her company was so peaceful and I felt so loved. As I grew older, we would call each other and talk for hours, until her illness curtailed our talks and eventually robbed us of the privilege. I loved to pick up the phone and hear her say: “Claudette, sweetie, I love you”. I thank God for the memories and the opportunity of having had Leandre in my life. She was my spiritual mentor throughout four critical teenage years. It is this legacy that has been my driving force throughout the thirty years my husband and I have ministered in the North Caribbean Conference of SDA. In an endeavor to do for the youth what my big sister did for me, which helped to solidify my walk with God, I have ministered to the youth wherever we have served. My comfort is that she now rests at peace awaiting the call of the Life-giver. I will miss her dearly, but I look forward with joy to that glorious day.
My husband, Glendon G. Cross, our daughters, Cherise Green and Eilese Cross join me in extending our love, as together we mourn the loss of our beloved Leandre. Our hearts are with you and we continue to pray for God’s comfort for all of us.
