Mr John Harvey Jordon's Obituary
John Harvey Jordon, 83, of Houston, died on Monday, August 17, 2015. John was born in Marshall, TX, on January 23, 1932 to James C. Jordon, Sr. and Mattie Lee Ponder-Jordon. He attended public schools in Marshall, Hooks, Channelview, Cloverleaf, New Whaley, Galena Park, Carthage and Santa Fe. He graduated from Santa Fe High School in 1950. He attended Sam Houston State Teachers College in Huntsville and The University of Houston. He served in the U.S.M.C.R. during the Korean War 1950-1951 and was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds sustained in Korea.
John received his Masonic degree in 1973 and his mother lodge was Lorenzo deZavala Lodge #1397, Houston. He was a member of the Houston Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, a member of Houston Arabia Temple Shriner's and a member of The Drum and Bugle Corps. He was a member of The American Legion Post #594, VFW Post 5400 in Alta Loma, Houston, a Life Member of the 100 Club of Houston and a life member of The Houston City Club. John was the founder of Charter Roofing and Waterproofing of Houston and Dallas.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Mary (Genie) Andrews-Jordon; Father, James C. Jordon, Sr; Mother, Mattie Lee Ponder-Jordon of Diboll, TX; Son, John Stephen Jordon of Houston; Sister, Shirley Jean Jordon-Hunt of Mt. Enterprise, TX; Brother, James C. Jordon and his wife Irene of Lufkin, TX; Brother, Harold E. Jordon and wife Doris of Diboll, TX; Edia Becker-Jordon of Alvin, TX.
He is survived by his daughters, Dianne Lenore Jordon of Houston and Julie Marie Jordon and Michael Leonpacher; Grandsons, John Nathan Jordon of Arkansas and Troy Jason Golden and wife Leah Golden; Great-Grandchildren, Jordon Golden and Kameron Golden both of Houston; Stepsons, Brian Andrews and his son Brenham and wife Britta ; Paul Andrews of Houston; Nephews, Jim Jordon and wife Leann of Diboll; Gary Jordon and wife Jill, of Lufkin, TX; and Harold Jordon Jr. of Lufkin: Niece, Phyllis Jean Jordon-Trzeciak and husband Marty of Spokane, WA; and numerous cousins of Marshall, Jefferson, Lone Star, Karnack, Longview, Dallas and Houston, TX.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 4, 2015 at 3:00 PM with Rev. Tim Ramsey, officiating in the Chapel of SouthPark Funeral Home, 1310 North Main Street, Pearland, TX 77581. A reception will immediately follow at the Holiday Inn, 1702 North Main Street, Pearland, TX 77581. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, September 5, 2015 at 11:30 AM at Pope City Cemetery in Woodlawn, TX with Rev. Tom Ratcliff officiating.
