I first met "Rich", as he was called, "on the air" in the early 1960's while I was serving in the Navy. Although it is not stated in his obituary, Rich was a long time familiar voice on ham radio with the call letters K5KJS - he and I maintained contact via that medium for more than 40 years, we both used the same brand of radios manufactured by Swan Electronics of Oceanside, California. And yes, he was very proud of his Navy service, we reminisced often about that part of our lives. Rich is now a silent key; but, many of us will remember him until it is our turn. Silent Key is a term that implies the Morse Code key of the user has gone silent.
