Mrs. Daryl J. Terry's Obituary
Daryl Jennings Henderson Terry, 93, born in Atlanta, Georgia, went to be with her Lord and Savior on June 24, 2017 in Houston, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents, Tyre Lee Jennings, Jr and Ellie Louise Martin Jennings; her first husband, Joe Martin Henderson of Bryan , Texas and her late husband William Patton “Pat” Terry, Jr. of Copperhill, Tennessee. She was also predeceased by her loving brother, Tyre Lee Jennings III and wife Madylene, nephew Durhmon Jennings and his son, Matthew Jennings, all of Houston, Texas.
Daryl is survived by her loving daughter, Nancy Henderson Haupt, grandsons Grant Haupt, Jordan Haupt, and his wife Lauren and 3 beloved great-granddaughters, Kristen Haupt, Rachael and Melissa Haupt; niece Linda Holder, husband Mickey and family, niece Kay Montgomery, husband David and family.
After childhood spent in Atlanta, her parents moved to Dallas, Texas, where she graduated from Adamson High School in 1941. There she focused on a business curriculum and mastered shorthand and typing to be prepared for secretarial work. Daryl was employed as an administrative secretary for Shell Oil Company, both in Houston and Atlanta, retiring after a 26 year career.
She was also a devoted member of the Baptist Tabernacle in downtown Atlanta, where she met her second husband, Pat Terry Jr. he was a loving step-father to her daughter, Nancy and devoted grandfather to both of Nancy’s sons during their formative years. Daryl was an avid reader, loved her Bible and enjoyed fiction books. She loved looking through her many cookbooks and entertaining her family and friends, not sparing the fine china and silver. When her grandsons came along, she was very involved in caring for them and loved and adored them. She was also blessed to have three beautiful great-granddaughters, whom she cherished. Daryl will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
A memorial Service is planned for Saturday, July 29, 2017 at 10 am at South Park Funeral and Cemetery in Pearland, Texas, with interment immediately following at South Park Cemetery. Condolences may be made at www.southparkfunerals.com after July 19, 2017.
