It is hard to put into words just how much it has meant to me to have been a part of my Aunt Daryl's daily life for the last three years. My husband, David, and I have had the privilege of being able to oversee her care at the local nursing home here in Houston. My Dad, Ty (Buddy) and his sister, Daryl, had been very close and he talked daily over the phone with her before his passing away in 2010, when she was still lived in Atlanta. Daryl was not just my Aunt, but also my sister in Christ. She had a beautiful spirit and a deep faith in her Savior. She handled all the changes in her last years with much grace and exceptional strength for someone in her 90's. While I was growing up in Houston, I had not had the privilege of being able to see her and Uncle Pat, except for infrequent visits, due to our families living in different states. So after she was widowed and she was unable to live on her own, we were able to bring her to Houston. Her daughter, Nancy, needed to relocate to Illinois to be near her son and help out with his family health issues. Nancy and her mom were able to talk everyday on the phone. Aunt Daryl was a loving mother and grandmother. She had been so delighted to be able to see her great-granddaughters when they visited with her last year.
I can't say enough about her strength of character and her deep love for her family. She was always so thankful and appreciative for what others did for her, and was a favorite patient of the staff at Park Manor nursing home. She was known for the care she had in her appearance, always having her earring and necklace matching her outfit and her lovely head of hair styled to perfection. She was a women of true warmth and Southern charm in all her interactions with others. She is greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
In loving memory of my Aunt,
Kay Montgomery
