Mr. Charles A. Hauptman's Obituary
Charles Allen Hauptman left his earthly life on May 3, 2016, and went peacefully, instantly, and joyfully into the presence of his dear Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and his forever home. He was born on May 10, 1924, in Houston, Texas to Almedia Gray Hauptman and Charles Christopher Hauptman. He was 91 years and 51 weeks old. He grew up in The Heights in Houston and was a graduate of John H. Reagan High School. He met and fell in love with his beloved Jo Helen and they married a few months later. She was the love of his life, his soulmate, and they celebrated their 71st Wedding Anniversary just before she passed in 2013. Soon after they married, he was called to war and proudly served his country with the U.S. Army during WWII. He was attached to the U.S. Army’s 45th Infantry Division. During his deployment he was part of a beach landing at Anzio, Italy, a beach landing in Southern France, and also served in Germany and Czechoslovakia. While he was away, his beautiful baby girl, Linda, was born. He first saw and held her 2 ½ years later when he returned from the war. Their family was completed with the births of their three sons – Mike, Ronnie, and Greg. The young family moved to Pasadena into a home that Charles Allen built, with help from his Dad and friends. Many years later, he also built the bay home in San Leon that he and Jo Helen eventually retired to. Charles Allen was employed by Sinclair Oil, (later ARCO) and retired after 43 years of service. He believed there was only one way to do a job, and that was the right way, without compromise, and that was how he lived his life. While the bay house was under construction, the boys used to lovingly tease their Dad about his uncompromising work ethic saying: “why use 1 nail when 3 will do?” However, it’s worth noting that when Hurricane Ike blew through with the terrible wind and storm surge leveling much of San Leon, the Hauptman’s bay home remained standing firm! Jo Helen and Charles Allen had a rich, full life together. They treasured each moment they spent together, raised a beautiful family, and looked forward to the weekends and vacations they could spend down at the bay until they were able to retire there and enjoy it everyday. Their retirement years were filled with traveling with their friends, who they considered family, from their ”Holiday Rambler RV Club”. Charles Allen spent countless days shrimping with his brother-in-law and buddy, Charles ‘Sonny’ Smith. Jo Helen and Charles Allen loved fishing together and enjoyed hosting large family gatherings at the bay dining on the catch of the day all while laughing, talking and just enjoying the love and warmth of family and friends. He was honored to be known as a Masonic Brother for 65+ years, as well as a WWII Veteran. He loved his family dearly, cared for and watched over them, and loved Jo Helen with every fiber of his being. Theirs was a love story for the ages. What he would want us to know about him beyond everything else is that he had a personal relationship with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He tried to model his life after Jesus as best he could. Both he and Jo Helen were active members of Arcadia First Baptist Church in Santa Fe, Texas.
He leaves his brother, Kenneth Hauptman, his son, Michael Hauptman, and wife Sissy; his son, Ronald Hauptman; his son, Gregory Hauptman, and wife Becky; Grandchildren Cindy Romano, and husband David; Chris Gaulden; Stacey Uptegrove and husband Rusty; Graham Hauptman and wife, Annie; Marsha Snider and husband Christopher; Samuel Hauptman; Great Grandchildren Trent Romano, Rhett Hauptman and Lily Snider; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In Heaven waiting for him was his beloved wife, Jo Helen Hauptman, his beloved daughter, Linda Hauptman Lloyd; his Grandsons, Ricky Gaulden and Bailey Hauptman. Rest in peace, Charles Allen.
