Cecil Earl Dorsey
Born October 14, 1936, the third of six children, to Charlie and Rhea Dorsey in Hearne, Texas, where he graduated high school in 1955. After attending TCU for one year, he joined the Navy, where he was an electronic spy on submarine duty. Four years later he came home and resumed his education at Lamar University, graduating in 1964 with a degree in Political Science. Then on to receive his Master’s Degree from the University of Houston.
In 1967 Cecil went to work for the Manned Spacecraft Center, later to be renamed the Johnson Space Center, as the Admin Officer of Mission Operations. There he met Linda Shinault and they were married in 1969. (Cecil and Linda celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on February 14, 2019.) He later moved to Property Management in the Logistics Division of Center Operations. He also served the city of Nassau Bay City Council from 1991 to 1995.
After 30 years of civil service, he retired in 1997. He began teaching part time at San Jacinto College and in 2002 became full time, teaching US and TX government, becoming the Department Chair of the Social Sciences Department. He retired in 2014 but continued teaching part time for couple more years. (It’s in his blood.)
Cecil has always enjoyed reading and loved sports, especially playing golf and watching the Dallas Cowboys play football.
Cecil is preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Rhea Dorsey, his brothers Leon and Kenneth, and his sisters Evelyn and Judy.
He is survived by his sister Nita Soileau; his wife Linda; three sons, Chris, Mark and Ryan; and six grandchildren: Gabriel, Hannah, Abby, Madeline, Noah and Annie
Visitation will be Friday, July 12, 2019 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at SouthPark Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be on Saturday, July 13, 2019 at 2:00 pm followed by Interment at SouthPark Cemetery.
