Betty Jean (Asaf) Costancio, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully at her home in Houston, Texas, on October 18, 2025, with her devoted son and husband by her side.
Betty was born on August 18, 1951, in Houston, Texas, to John and Olivia Asaf. She grew up in Houston tagging along with her siblings as they participated in various activities. She married Domingo Costancio, Jr. on September 8, 1984. A dedicated wife and mother, Betty was always helping out where she could. She never turned down an opportunity to be the room mom for her kids’ classes. Her house was always the place to be or meet up. She never turned anyone away. She worked for Sam’s Club for 30 years in sales and customer service, where her warmth and kindness touched countless lives. She had a creative spirit and spent many years enjoying arts and crafts, sewing, crossword puzzles, baking, and cooking for large gatherings of family and friends. She had the best “Betto Tacos” this side of the boarder.
For more than 40 years, Betty was a devoted member of Northwest Baptist Church. She faithfully attended services, Missionary Conferences, and Ladies’ Retreats. She loved to help with Vacation Bible School, and any project that came up at the church. She liked to work in the background without acknowledgment. Her constant desire for knowing more about the Lord and seeking Him daily is where she truly gained her strength and peace in life.
In 2020, Betty began a fitness journey with her son that led to a remarkable transformation in both strength and health. Among her many accomplishments, one of her greatest was finding her voice and courage during her time at Hope4Cancer in Tijuana, Mexico — an experience that inspired all who loved her.
She will be remembered for her unwavering faith, her generous heart, her joyful laughter, and her steadfast love for her family.
Betty is preceded in death by her parents, John and Olivia (Cantu) Asaf; siblings, Alejandro (Garza) Cantu, David Serra, Eva Barlow, Beatrice Hernandez, Bobby Asaf, Mary (Asaf) Youens, John Asaf, III; and stepdaughter, Tracy (Costancio) Ryals.
Betty is survived by her loving husband, Domingo Costancio, Jr.; daughter, Jackie Embry and husband James; son, Christopher Martinez; and stepdaughter, Angela Gibbs and husband Tony; grandchildren, Cristian Deweese, Bobby Gibbs, Joshua Embry, Brandon Ryals, Ciara Ryals, Olivia Tollfree, Christopher Martinez, Jr., Jordan Embry, and Jenna Embry.
