With deep sorrow, we announce that Anne Johnston Smith passed away peacefully at the age of 69 on January 4, 2025 after a months-long battle with dementia.
Born January 5, 1955 in Houston, Texas, Anne was the only child of Robert Victory Johnston and Virginia MacGregor Johnston. Anne was raised in Alvin, Texas, where she would settle with her husband of 46 years, Richard Earl Smith, and raise two sons, Brian Alan Smith and William Derek Smith. She had a long career as an administrative assistant for Enclean and TEAM Industrial Services, and held membership in Young Presidents’ Organization - Executive Assistants.
Anne was a warm and lovely mother, wife, aunt, cousin, grandmother, and friend. She was a generous and lively hostess and made everyone feel welcome and celebrated. Together, Anne and Richard volunteered for several military service organizations such as the USO. Anne devoted a great number of years of service to the Daughters of the American Revolution, where she and her mother Virginia both held the position of Regent, among other service roles. Anne had a passion for gardening, crafting, and genealogy, and held high esteem for those in service to our country.
Anne is predeceased by her father, Robert Victory Johnston, her mother Virginia Johnston MacGregor Peters and stepfather Glenn Peters, and her husband Richard Earl Smith.
She is survived by her son Brian Smith and wife Melissa; her son Derek Smith and wife Frances; her grandchildren, Aubrey, Elaine, Bennett, Aiden, & Esther; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, family friends, and a vast network of DAR sisters and colleagues who will always remember her fondly.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 25th, 2025 at 11:00 AM at South Park Funeral Home in Pearland, TX. A reception will follow at a separate location.
