My name is Kent Goodman. I met Allen in 1986 when he was operating a crane for the Fluor Daniel Corporation at Monahan, TX. He had refused to make a lift because he felt that it was unsafe. So, I was sent to the jobsite to review the lift. It turned out that he was absolutely correct in not making the lift even though the Construction Manager threatened to fire him if he didn't. Later, the CM apologized to Allen.
I was so impressed with Allen's honesty and integrity that several months later, I selected him to be the rigging superintendent on the Benicia, CA refinery project. That was the start of a wonderful friendship. Even though we were both crane operators, I often asked him for his opinion on crane operations and he asked me a lot of questions on rigging engineering. I will miss conversing with Allen on a lot of topics. I pray that Allen's family will not mourn to long but will turn their mourning into sweet memories of him and their time together.
