Adrienne Meyer's Obituary
Adrienne Ann Aubrey Meyer was born on November 5, 1948 in San Saba,Texas and passed away on February 24, 2024 in Manvel, Texas at home with her family. She was the daughter of Louise Harris and R.D. Aubrey, Jr. and the sister of Richard Drew (Dick) Aubrey, III. Her grandparents were Will and Bess (Clayton) Harris (lovingly called Dadda & Dandy) of San Saba, Texas and Ruby (Barnes) and R.D. (Cap) Aubrey (Mamaw and Papaw) of Brownwood, Texas.
At the age of (1) Adrienne moved to Houston with her family where she resided most of her elementary school years. She and her brother Dick moved back to San Saba when she was in the 6th grade and Dick was a Junior in High School. She remained in San Saba through the 8th grade where she lived with her grandparents, Dadda and Dandy. She was surrounded by her loving grandparents and aunts and uncles. She always said it was a happy time in her life. She met many lifelong friends in San Saba. Church was also a big part of her life and she was a member of the Baptist Church and participated in GA’s (Girls Auxiliary). She had accepted Jesus as her Savior at a young age in Houston and GA’s taught Bible Scriptures that you put to memorization.
She moved back to Housotn with her Mother in 1964 and attended South Park Baptist Church. She attended Cullen Junior High and later Jesse H Jones High School. She loved her high school experience and was in the Commodores Drill Team. Her particular fleet was the Hornipipers (the dancing fleet). Adrienne was also #1 Singles on the tennis team and was a member of the yearbook staff. She also participated in Future Teachers of American and Youth for Christ.
The love of God, dance, games, writing, tennis, gardening and decorating continued to remain important to Adrienne her whole life. She loved having parties and getting together with family and friends.
The summer before her senior year she met the love of her life Johnny Meyer. The blind date , arranged by a good friend, certainly worked out. They were married August 24, 1968, at South Park Baptist Church in Houston, Texas. Both Adrienne and Johnny continued going to college at Lamar Tech in Beaumont, Texas. Upon Johnny’s graduation in 1970, with a degree in Electrical Engineering, they moved back to Houston, where Johnny took a job with Houston LIghting and Power and Adrienne continued her education at the University of Houston. She graduated in 1972 with a degree of Bachelor of Science in Education (P.E. with a specialty in dance). Her minor was Health. Her first teaching job was at Yates High School in Houston, Texas, where she taught P.E. and coached swimming and dance. Her teaching career continued for about 18 years where she taught elementary and Junior High P.E. and 6th grade science. Most of her career was in Early Childhood Education where she found her true niche in the 4 year old Pre-K. She always worked in Christian preschools where she could sing and teach about God’s love. She incorporated P.E. activities in her classes and enjoyed implementing field day into the preschool program. Adrienne knew early in life she wanted to be a teacher.
In 1973, Adrienne’s daughter Kristen Michelle was born and in 1976, her son John Chadwick (Chad) was born. They were the loves of her life and she was their biggest cheerleader. As Adrienne and Johnny aged, their children were a great support to them…She always said how blessed she was to have them live close and have such a loving relationship. Her life was further enhanced with the birth of both granddaughters; Madi in 2015 and Aubrey in 2017. The were such blessings to Adah and Poppy. The other blessing came in 2018 when Nate came to live with Kristen and Jameel. He was going into the 8th grade. He was immediately adopted as a grandson. Adrienne loved the sleepovers, the game nights, the zoo and museum outings, the decorating times, birthday parties, travels to the bayhouse and Pagosa Springs and all the many special occasions celebrating together. Family time was deeply cherished.
Besides her family, Adrienne LOVED her friends. Pretty much… once a friend …always a friend. She had Houston friends, San Saba friends, high school friends, college friends, Houston Lighting and Power friends, Barwood friends, Memorial friends, teacher friends, Pearland friends, Sargent friends, and Pagosa Springs friends. She was blessed to have so many special people in her life.
God was always an important part of the family and her children were brought up in the Baptist Church where prayer and Bible Study were important to them. She and Johnny were blessed to have been married 55 ½ years and were so thankful that they met when young and always said it was definitely a God Thing. They called each other “Puppy Love”. She and Johnny enjoyed traveling all over the world and Adrienne always documented their trips with a scrapbook. She did drive her family a little crazy by always documenting their time together… especially when I-phones came into existence. She was always “snapping” photos.
Adrienne’s “cousin” family was always important to her. She had a small family… but they were mighty. Her parent’s grandparents, aunts and uncles instilled in her a strong sense of family. She had wonderful first cousins who impacted her life in wonderful ways. Richard and Walt (Dad’s side) and Goga, Pat, Mimi, Bill, and Janet (on Mother’s side) . Their children Angie, Katie, Billy, Brad and Jay continue the legacy and we all stay connected.
Adrienne always said her best friend was her Mother, Louise Aubrey. Their relationship was something very special and she always said she was so fortunate to have had her so long in her life (67 years). Lou lived until 96.
A special thank you for my wonderful family who have supported me during my cancer journey. They were angels who lifted me up everyday. Johnny did an amazing job of always meeting all my medical and personal needs. His nicknames (Grumpy and Happy) are lovingly used. He was truly amazing and I appreciate all that he did for me.
My prayer warriors and dear friends diligently lifted me up for over 2 years. Their vigilance has been so instrumental in my walk through this cancer. I know their prayers kept me strong and positive in my journey. Adrienne always said “God is in control”.
Adrienne is preceded in death by her Mother, Louise Harris Aubrey, her Father R.D. Aubrey, her brother Dick Aubrey; her cousins, Gloria, Mimi, Bill, Walt and Pat.
