Vera Kathleen White
October 11, 1959 - February 24, 2022
Vera White, a longtime resident of Pearland, Texas, was born October 11, 1959, on Hoopa Valley Reservation, and died February 24, 2022, surrounded by loved ones in her home after a seven and a half year battle with colon cancer. Vera is survived by her husband of 42 years, Tony White; daughters and son-in-law, Elizabeth White, Rebekah and David Kowis; granddaughter, Kathryn Kowis; and mother, Bonnie Breit. She was predeceased by her son, Timothy White; and father, Dale L. Breit. Vera grew up in California. She and her brother, Joe, were adopted by Dale L. Breit in 1968. Shortly after, she helped welcome her brother, Sean, and sister, Meechele, into the family. At a young age, she was highly involved in the local Lutheran Church and found her love for sewing at eight years old. Vera moved to Texas and married Tony White in St. John's Lutheran Church in Napa, CA on September 22, 1979. On March 8, 1983, January 24, 1987, and February 28, 2000, Tony and Vera welcomed their beautiful children Rebekah, Timothy and Elizabeth into their lives. Then in 2015, she was one of the first people to welcome her granddaughter, Kathryn, into the family. She spent time teaching them about God's sovereignty over all plans and how love should be a part of everything you do. Vera spent much of her life loving children. It is said that even at a young age, she wanted every child to feel welcome, included, heard, and loved. She used that love to run an in-home daycare in Abilene, Texas; to be an amazing room-mom to every class her children attended in Pearland, TX; serving in the PTA; and eventually became a pediatric nurse. She graduated from San Jacinto College in 1990 on the Dean's List as a Licenced Vocational Nurse. She worked as a nurse in a pediatric doctor's office. Then, she started working at Humana Hospital in Clear Lake, Texas. In the almost 30 years of working there, she worked in Pediatrics, Postpartum, and finally Nursery. Vera also loved to volunteer her time serving others through the church at New Life Lutheran Church in Pearland, Texas. She spent years teaching Sunday School classes, acting as Sunday School superintendent, teaching Vacation Bible School, serving on the Bazaar committee, and sewing with the Quilting Circle. Her love of sewing quickly blossomed into a love of quilting. The quilts raffled at the church bazaar from 2006-2021 were pieced by Vera. After retiring, she combined her love for God, nursing, and children to volunteer as a nurse at Lutherhill in La Grange, Texas as often as she could. Vera's love and guidance is evident within all those she touched. Memorial gifts may be made to the glory of God and in honor of Vera White and directed to Lutherhill Ministries, 3782 Lutherhill Road, La Grange, Texas 78945-4132
