Ysidoro Meza's Obituary
Ysidoro (Sid) Meza, age 80, went home to our lord on December 19, 2023. He is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 53 years, Diana Meza, his daughters Melanie Meza, Mónica Méndez and husband Manuel, Melissa Castillo and husband Mario; grandchildren Cassandra, Noah, Sebastian, Jason, Manuel, Santiago and great granddaughter Sophia who he loved beyond measure; Sister Gloria Castro and husband Reyes, brother Israel and wife Yolanda, his Aunt Tia Mage Villarreal; Stepmother Helen Meza, sisters Carmen Vasquez and husband Joe, Janie Patino and husband Chris and brother Louie Meza as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He is preceded in death by his father Ysidoro, mother Elena, brothers David and Gilbert.
He was born on June 4th, 1943, to Ysidoro Meza and Elena Cardenas Meza and raised in the community of Magnolia Park in Houston, Tx. He attended elementary school at Immaculate Heart of Mary and DE Zavala then went on to Edison Jr. High and was a 1963 graduate of Milby High School.
In December of 1964 Sid enlisted in the United States Army, not waiting to be drafted. He served in the Vietnam war in the 2nd Battalion, 9th Artillery, 25th Infantry Division in 1965 – 1966. His family is extremely proud of him and his self-sacrificing service to his country.
Sid started working at Texaco Oil Company in 1969 where he was a dedicated employee, having worked as a computer operator in the credit card division until 1999 when he retired with 30 years of service.
The sport of bowling was a large part of Sid’s life. He started bowling in 1972 at Gulfgate Bowling Lanes and later joined the Latin bowlers club where he served as tournament director for several years. In 1977 he co-founded the United Mexican-American Bowling Club (UMAB) where he served as President for several years then as Tournament Director for 45 years until the club concluded in 2022. He developed so many special friendships and relationships statewide throughout his years of bowling. His passion for bowling brought him joy and allowed him to connect with others who shared his love for the sport.
As a Vietnam Veteran, Sid joined The Tejano Veterans Association in 2016 where he held office as Vice-Commander and was the current Judge Advocate for the organization. He was proud to continue serving his country by servicing other veterans and current military personnel.
Viewing and Eulogization will be held at South Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 1310 N Main St. Pearland , Tx 77581 on Thursday, December 28, 2023 from 5-8 pm with Rosary at 6 pm. Funeral Mass of celebration of life to be held Friday, December 29, 2023 at St Helen Catholic Church, 2209 Old Alvin Rd. Pearland, Texas 77581 at 10 am with interment following at South Park Cemetery
