Winna Fred was born on November 10, 1926 and had just celebrated her 96th birthday. She was
born in Amherst, TX and moved to Penistaja, New Mexico when she was four years old. When she
was in the 8th grade the family moved to Rogers, Arkansas where she attended & graduated from
Rogers HS. She still wore her Mountaineer shirt with pride!
Upon graduation she traveled to Lubbock, TX and worked as a switchboard operator for Bell
Telephone Company. She also waited tables at a local diner and attended various functions
sponsored by the students at Texas Tech University, where she met the love of her life at a sock hop.
She & Harvey were married on December 27, 1949 and moved to Houston where all 3 of their
children were born. Winna Fred was a stay at home mom until all of her children were in school.
She then helped to start the Mother’s Day Out program at Park Place Methodist Church (now known
as Servants of Christ United Methodist Parish), where she taught the Pre-K class for 25 years.
Winna was an active member of her church as long as she was able and a good and faithful servant
of God. These last 4 years she has been a resident of The Reserve at Pasadena (formerly known as
Colonial Oaks) Memory Care Unit. Even in her recent decline, she enjoyed her interaction with staff
and resident friends, singing and sharing God’s love. The family wants to sincerely thank the staff of
both the Reserve and Reliant Hospice for the love and care they gave to our dear Mother while
seeing her to the end of life.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Seaside Church located in Jamaica Beach, 16534 Termini San Luis Pass Rd Galveston TX, 77554 on Saturday, March 4, 2023 at 1:00pm for family and friends. Come early and stay to enjoy food and fellowship.
