Jr. was riding the seat, Capt., one afternoon at Station 36. As they pulled out of the station, left on Airport Blvd. on a rainy day, in a old open cab reserve pumper, with a makeshift slide lock on Jr's door. As I was watching them run, I noticed Jr's door fly open and Jr. flying out of the cab still in a sitting position in the seat of the pumper. Barely missing the street lamp post and landing in the soft mud of the rain soaked ground, tearing up mud junks everywhere. Jr. got up, grabbed the seat, jumped back into to the pumper and resumed their run.....luckiest, most unbelievable thing I ever witnessed in my career in HFD.
God bless you and your family. David, you have my sincere condolences as we both have lost our mentor and hero. Our fathers have made us who we are today. We have been friends since school and I hope to connect again with you soon. Be at peace knowing that our fathers made a lifetime of doing the Lord's work. Their legacy will be followed.
I worked with Junior at 36's in the early 70's. He was a great guy to work with and a fine example to us all. I wish he and his family God's peace.
