Walter Erwin Welsh's Obituary
Walter Welsh, bom on August 13, 1934, in Louisville, KY, peacefully passed away on September 5, 2025, in Pearland, TX. He was the eldest son of Walter Welsh and Kathryn (Miller) Welsh, both of whom preceded him in death. Walter was also preceded in death by his younger brothers, Jerry and Ken.
Walter's earthly life was filled with adventures and challenges that shaped his character and resilience. Growing up as a poor boy in a Kentucky orphanage, he often joked that his family was so poor, they couldn't even afford to pay attention. One of Walter's favorite stories from his time at Nuremberg High School was the day he returned home only to discover that his family had moved without leaving a forwarding address. In a twist of fate, he later ran into his brother Jerry, who had been sent to fetch him. Unfortunately, Jerry had completely forgotten his mission and decided that dinner was a much better priority-because who needs a home when you have a good meal? Walter served in the Army during the Korean War, where he often joked that he was just trying to find a way to get a hot meal and a warm bed-something he had mastered long before his time in the service!
Walter's life was a beautiful tapestry woven with love and laughter. He was a devoted husband to his late wife, Patsy (Atkinson) Welsh, with whom he shared 39 wonderful years of marriage. Their journey together was filled with joy, companionship, and playful banter that kept their love alive and thriving. Walter would often say that the secret to a long marriage was to always let Patsy think she was right-something he mastered with the finesse of a seasoned negotiator.
A lover of music, Walter found joy in the harmonies of the Gaither Vocal Band and cherished the peace that their melodies brought him. He was also an avid reader of Louis L'Amour books, which complemented his passion for tales of the old west. He often joked that if he had lived in the Wild West, he would have been the only cowboy who brought a book to a gunfight-after all, who needs a six-shooter when you have a good story?
Walter is survived by his son, David Welsh, and daughter-in-law, Karen Welsh. He also leaves behind a loving extended family, including Bertie Jo Bewley and husband Oscar, Urvine Atkinson and wife Alice, niece Ann Bewley, nephews David Atkinson and son Alex, and Victor Bewley, wife Vicki, and son McKelvey.
Walter will be remembered for his gentle spirit, quick wit, and the love he shared with his family. He had a knack for making everyone feel special, often reminding them that laughter was the best medicine - unless, of course, you were trying to get out of doing the dishes. He will be deeply missed, but his legacy of laughter and love will continue to brighten the lives of those who knew him.
