Being friends with the Poates was a blessing To us all. To work for Jesus together was always great with his leadership abilities. We have been friends for many years and seen the love they had for each other. They taught both young couples and senior adults, Dan ,of course, was always prepared was a excellent teacher. He was dressed well with his suits with matching ties, with a smile as he spoke of the love of our Savior.
He has run the race, as a servant, as a good disciple,I'm sure he heard "well done, my son- Welcome Home."

My Mother was the eldest of the Poates children, and Uncle Dan’s sister and senior by five years. As a child, I quietly observed and processed the adults at family gatherings and always saw him as a gentle presence that was instructive to me even then. In my adulthood, I came to appreciate and admire the maturity and devotion with which Uncle Dan met life’s travails and challenges. In my mind, he represented and modeled the quiet and unassuming Christ-like love to which I believe a true Christian should aspire. What better legacy could a man leave than such a well-lived life. Rest in peace.

Sue, Patsy, Walter, and Joe, I and my families condolences in the passing of Walter (Dan). My memories of Dan are primarily two fold. One at NASA where Dan was highly regarded for his technical competence and work ethic. Second, and my main memory, are multi fold at Easthaven Baptist Church where we served together as deacons, committee members, and trusted friends. Dan expressed his opinions and stood by them as 99 percent of the time they were correct. He was founded deeply in his faith and it was my, and my families, honor to have known and served with him.
