Mr. Vishwanath Gopalan's Obituary
Vishwanath Gopalan passed away on the 18th of October 2018 at the age of 62 years in St. Lukes Hospital in Houston after complications from a heart attack suffered eleven months ago. He was born in New Delhi, India on August 9, 1956 and grew up in Kolkata, India. He completed his schooling in 1973 from South Point High School in Kolkata and stood first in the final year for the whole state of West Bengal. He then pursued his Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering at the prestigious IIT-Kanpur in India and completed it in 1978. He then came to the US and completed his Master’s in Computer Science at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles in 1979. Since then his professional career over a span of almost forty years as a Software Engineer took him to Burroughs Corp., Shell Oil Company, NASA, BMC Software Inc., and JPMorgan Chase.
Vishwanath lived most of his life in the US in Clear Lake City, Houston Texas. He enjoyed sports especially Table Tennis in which he won many competitions in his youth. He also enjoyed watching baseball, basketball, football and golf. He served in various capacities as a board member, treasurer in the local chapter of the Kannada cultural organization, Houston Kannada Vrinda. He took part in various Indian cultural activities like drama and folk dance. He liked being around friends and family. He was a loving son, brother and husband. This caring, sweet soul will be greatly missed and remembered for years to come for all his generosities and love.
Vishwanath was preceded in death by his parents Mrs. Lalitha and Mr. Gopalan. He is survived by his wife Mrs. Bhavani Vishwanath, his sister Dr. Sudha Gopalan and her husband Dr. Rene Zingg, nieces Anita and Sheila Zingg, in-laws Mrs. Lalitha and Mr. Krishnaswamy, numerous relatives and friends. The family will receive friends on Wednesday October 24, 2018 from 10AM – 11AM at SouthPark Funeral Home, 1310 N. Main St., Pearland, Texas. Cremation services will follow immediately.
