Mr. Vernon Wilson Thompson's Obituary
Vernon Wilson Thompson, 89, passed away on Monday, April 6th 2009 in Alvin TX. He was born May 1, 1919 in Houston, TX to John W. and Vida Thompson. Vernon was preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 34 years Mildred Thompson. A loving husband, father, brother and grandfather he is survived by his wife of 29 1 1/2 years Christene Thompson; son, Delbert Thompson and wife Cathy; daughter, Nadine Thompson; step-daughters, Linda Greer and husband James, Candy Zunker and husband Smitty and Joyce Baucom; grandchildren, Troy Thompson, Eric Thompson, Leslie Brown, Jennifer Palmer, Matthew Greer, Evan Shannon and Alison Baucom; sister, Edith Mayes; numerous great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He leaves behind many cherished memories for all who knew him and lived his life for his love of his God, his country and his family. Vernon served in the United States Army during WW II European Theater Medical Corps and participated in the D Day invasion and the Battle of the Bulge. Vernon retired from the United States Postal Service- Genoa Station after 26 years of service. The family will receive friends Wednesday, April 8th from 5-8 PM at SouthPark Funeral Home in Pearland, TX. A Celebration of Life will be held Thursday, April 9th at 12:30 PM in the Chapel of SouthPark Funeral Home. Interment will follow at SouthPark Cemetery.
