Valda M. Wright's Obituary
Valda May Wright, affectionately called Dell, was born on June 14, 1934, in Naseberry Gardens, St. Catherine, Jamaica to Caleb and Ethlyn Wright. She had nine siblings and was the youngest daughter.
She lived and worked in Kingston, Jamaica for several years before welcoming her only son, Selvyn Emmanuel Williamson. Valda made the courageous decision to immigrate to the United States in 1976 with her employers who loved her darely. She settled in Pearland, Texas, with hopes of building a brighter future and creating new opportunities for herself and her son.Valda worked tirelessly as a housekeeper until she was able to save enough money to bring Selvyn to the United States.
In 1978, she began her career with the Pearland Independent School District as a custodian, where she diligently served for thirty years before retiring in 2008.
Determined to fully embrace the opportunities of her new home, Valda and Selvyn devoted themselves to studying the history of the United States in preparation for the Naturalization Test. In May 1990, they proudly became citizens of the United States, making Pearland their permanent home. Though she embraced life in America, Valda remained deeply connected to her Jamaican roots and traditions, lovingly passing them down to her son, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Valda was a woman of remarkable strength, loyalty, unwavering faith in God, and boundless love for her family, relatives and friends. She was a devoted member of Shadycrest Baptist Church and faithfully read her Bible daily. She was selfless, compassionate, and always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. She found great joy in cooking and baking her favorite Christmas Fruit Cakes. She frequently expressed her love through the meals she prepared and shared with others. She also enjoyed shopping with her family, knitting, watching her favorite TV shows, and caring for her plants. Her vibrant laugh, warm spirit, and unshakable joy will forever be remembered by all who knew and loved her.
Valda leaves to cherish her memory and carry on her legacy: her beloved son, Selvyn Emmanuel Williamson; daughter-in-law, Kisha Jarmon-Williamson; grandchildren, K’Julon, Kamerin, Selvyn Jr., S’Jordyn, and Kaitlyn; and great-grandchildren, Caden, Brycen, Zhuri, and Zhoei; Nieces, Marverie, Carmen, Rita, Michelle, and Victoria; Nephews, Christopher, Derrick, Lester, John, Rohan, and many other relatives.
