Thomas Joseph Doherty's Obituary
Thomas Joseph Doherty, better known as, Tommy or T-Bird, passed away peacefully at his Pearland home on Monday, April 14, 2025. He was born in Houston, TX on November 18, 1941, to Francis Doherty and Anna (Doyle) Doherty. He was raised in Pearland and left school during the ninth grade. He spent time traveling and working and then enlisted in the Army. He married Linda Doan. They had a son, Shawn, and divorced soon after. Tommy completed his service, moved back to Pearland, and went to work. He met and married Norma Cropsey in 1968. They had a son, Tommy Wayne, and a daughter, Brenda. They traveled the country with Tommy working different jobs. He completed his brick layer apprenticeship in 1972. They divorced in 1980. Tommy then found his lifelong partner, Shirley McPeak, whom he was with until she passed in January 2025.
Tommy started Tommy’s Trucking in the early 1980’s and spent many years owning and operating several dump trucks and spreading material with his tractor. He and Shirley ran Tommy’s Ice House from 1984-1994 and had a lot of good times! They also traveled in the early 2000’s as Tommy went back to laying brick until 2007. Trucking was his love, though, and he returned to hauling in 2007. He never retired. He worked hard. He played hard. He loved hard.
He is survived by his children, Shawn Carter (Karen), Tommy Doherty (Kellie), Brenda Laskoskie, and by Shirley’s children, Shelly McPeak, Carole Kota, and James McPeak. He also leaves behind many grand and great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Shirley, many other friends and family, but especially, his brothers, Mike, John, and Frank, who were waiting to be reunited.
Pallbearers will be Tommy’s grandson, Braden Doherty, nephew, Shawn Doherty, and great-nephews, Cody Kreft, Jared Vavrecka, Justin Wiseman, Clay Kreft, and Jared Freiley.
Visitation will be held at South Park Funeral Home on Thursday, April 24, from 5-7 pm. A short vigil will start at 6 pm and we would love people to share stories and memories after.
A funeral mass will be held at Sacred Heart Church, 6502 County Rd 48, Manvel, TX 77578, on Friday, April 25, at 1230 pm.
Burial will be at South Park Cemetery at 2:00 pm.
The family would like everyone to gather at Billy’s Hall, 4070 Wells Dr, Pearland, TX 77584 to remember Tommy after the graveside service.
