2011 Talibon Fiesta in Courtice, Ontario- Ate Thelma and Kuya Bart flew in for the Blessed Trinity Fiesta which I was the Host along with the other Talibongnons in Ontario. Kuya Bart is my older brother's brother-in-law and that's what connects me to Ate Thelma. I had my only guest room prepared for them. There were I guess a dozen other guests staying at my place but the two of them were comfortably secured in their own room. It was a 3-day celebration and a day before, my roommate, Ate Thelma, Ate Ester and my friend who also flew in from England went to the Tepat Chinese Market in Pickering for additional shopping. When they got home, my roommate whispered to me about a pack of Lanzones fruits they bought and that it was safely kep at Ate Thelma and Kuya Bart's room. We eventually gave the other rooms to other guests while we moved tot he basement. As the night wore on, Ate Thelma came down with the Lanzones carefully hidden because it was not enough to share with everyone. And here's whee the funny part began, because Kuya Bart was left upstairs and has no clue that the Lanzones was already brought down.
This was the first time I had a closed encounter with Ate Thelma because I had no chance of meeting them in the past because I was a stowaway and was in and out of the family's radar the whole time. I also thought Ate Thelma was some kind of arrogant considering she was a nurse and came from a well to do family. I was completely wrong. The mockery on her face trying to call her husband to come down for the Lanzones was priceless. The Lanzones had been tossed around in and out of the blanket because we cannot see who was coming down. Ate Thelma's lovely face coupled by a comic emotion of being caught by the other guests conniving with us in not sharing the Lanzones was so funny. I guess it was the most memorable moment I had with her. Since that night I can't help looking at her with a smile during the whole time she and Kuya Bart stayed with us in 2011. We even plan to travel to England with Melette in the future. I guess it will no longer happen.
But here's what the priest in Hamilton said in his homily, "DIVINE INTERVENTION TO END THE SUFFERING..."
Goodbye Ate Thelma. And Kuya Bart how I longed so much in my heart to be with you and walk with you for Ate Thelma on her final resting place. Be strong....many hearts are hugging you not just in Canada but all throughout where Ate Thelma touches their lives once in their lifetime including me, Teresa and my friend Melette.
Rest in peace Ate Thelma...we will hold you dear in our hearts.
