Sidney Ray Kliesing's Obituary
Sidney Ray Kliesing, 90, was born on April 28, 1930, in Pearland, Texas, to Raymond V. Kliesing and Lillie Mae Whitley Kliesing. He went to be with the Lord on July 15, 2020, at HCA Mainland Medical Center in Texas City, Texas. Sidney is survived by his four children: Ray Kliesing, Robert Kliesing, Karen Kliesing, and Larry Kliesing and wife Julie; grandchildren: Christopher Kliesing, Rhiannon Kliesing, Adrienne Kliesing Smith and husband David, Kevin Kliesing, and Sydney Ann Kliesing; and great-grandchild, Cameron Thames. Also surviving are his sisters Mona Kliesing Shuster and Mary Ann Kliesing Decas. Preceding him in death are his wife of 67 years, Reba Eddings Kliesing; his parents; brothers Donald Kliesing and Charles Kliesing; sisters Evelyn Kliesing McAninch and Bernadene Martin Robertson; and grandchild, Jamie Erin Kliesing.
Sidney graduated from Allen Military Academy in Bryan, Texas, in 1948. He then enlisted in the U.S. Army and was accepted into the Officer Candidate School program at Fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas. Sidney graduated in the top 10% of his class and was promoted to 2nd Lieutenant. He served his country from Ft. Bliss during the Korean War.
Sidney married his high school sweetheart, Reba Jean Eddings, July 29, 1950, in Pearland, Texas, and other than his time in the service, they were lifelong Pearland residents.
Sidney was employed by Kliesing Motor Company in Pearland as the Sales Manager for about 20 years. He then worked as Fleet Manager at Pearson Chevrolet in Alvin for a few years and then finished out his working career as a pilot and flight instructor for various flight companies.
Sidney was a member of First Baptist Church Pearland for many years and in later years a member of Shadycrest Baptist Church. He was also on the Board of Directors of Pearland State Bank during its early years; a member of the Rotary Club and served as President during 1973-1974; a member of the Chamber of Commerce for many years; and a charter member of the Pearland Historical Society.
Sidney’s hobbies included recreational flying and building/repairing computers. Sidney was well travelled, including many states within the U.S. and several countries abroad.
For the last couple of years, he held the title of “Mr. Pearland”, as he was the oldest living male that was actually born in Pearland.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, July 28, 2020, from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm at South Park Funeral Home. Funeral Service will follow at 2:00 pm. Burial will be at South Park Cemetery.
