Mrs. Shirley F. Hawkins 's Obituary
SHIRLEY F. HAWKINS, 97, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 4, 2015, in Houston.
Shirley was born in Galveston, but grew up in Houston, where she thrived in its rich environment. She enjoyed many happy memories of dancing and acting in her early years. Shirley was very proud of having acted in several plays at the old Palace Theater and Majestic Theater. She was delighted to have performed during intermission at the Metropolitan Theater, where Clark Gable was a member of the ensemble. Shirley and her dance partner were the first to tap dance on the radio program conducted by Alfred Daniels of station KPRC. She performed at many local, social, and corporate events, such as the Policemen’s Ball, Firemen’s Ball, and affairs at the historic Rice Hotel.
Shirley had an overwhelming love for animals and was always rescuing them. She had many dogs and cats in her lifetime and supported various animal societies.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Aubrey Hawkins, and her brother, Dean R. Kamp. She is survived by the sons of her dear brother; Gerald Kamp, wife Sharon; Richard Kamp, wife Carla, and their lovely families; Thelma Hawkins and her beloved family: Dan, Jerry, Kathy, and their spouses and children; as well as her close friends, Jim and Dottie Burns, and their family.
