Sharlene Halsey's Obituary
Sharlene Halsey, 92, died on Wednesday, February 1, 2023, in Bay City,Texas.
She was born on June 23, 1930 to Vint and Bertha (Hicks) Kirk in Boyd County, Kentucky. She graduated from high school in Dearborn, Michigan. After graduation, she begin her job at Kirsch Drapery Hardware Company in Sturgis, Michigan where she worked for 37 years.
She married Roy Halsey on February 14, 1959. Sharlene was the mother of four children—Duane, Pam, Keith, and Brenda. The family enjoyed summer vacationing with camping trips in Washington DC, Yellowstone, Michigan Upper Peninsula, Niagara Falls.
After she and Roy retired, being avid NASCAR fans, they traveled the NASCAR circuit. Sharlene worked at the Dale Earnhardt souvenir trailer, and Roy was a NASCAR official.
Sharlene was very talented and enjoyed her arts and crafts—knitting, crocheting, sewing, painting, and card making. She also loved to fish and was an accomplished cook.
She was predeceased by her parents, her three children—Duane Halsey (Nancy); Pamela Taylor, Brenda Wagner (Tim) , two brothers—Harold Kirk, Glenn Kirk, and one sister, Rene Smith.
Sharlene is survived by her husband, Roy Halsey, of Bay City, Texas; her son, Keith Halsey (Peggy) of Midfield, Texas; her sister, Chris Knight (Jim) of Tavares, Florida; nine grandchildren,
Evelyn Vowel (Aaron) of Austin, Texas; Meryl Daugherty (Tim) of Round Rock, Texas; Erica Garza (Clifton) of Odessa, Texas; Ashley Lundquist (Anthony) of Rosenberg, Texas; Jenelle Taylor, Clarksville, Arkansas; Alice Wagner, Prescott, Michigan; Matthew Wagner, Leesburg, Florida; Melanie Wray,(Billy) Huntington, West Virginia; Charako Applegate (Scott), Albion, Indiana; nine great grandchildren, and three great great grandchildren.
A Celebration of her Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the following—American Cancer Society (cancer.org) where Sharlene was a volunteer or —the Alzheimers Foundation.
