Samuel John Velamparampil's Obituary
Samuel John Velamparampil (Kunjachan) was born on January 4, 1938 to Velamparampil
Yohanan and Rachel Yohanan in the city of Pullad, Kerala, India. He was the fifth of seven
children. He was raised in a God-fearing home with his brother and five sisters. His family was
an integral part of the original IPC movement that began in Poovathur in 1900. He received his
Bachelor’s of Mathematics from St. Thomas College, Kozhencherry.
Samuel married Aleyamma on June 13, 1974. He joined his wife in the United States in 1977
and subsequently moved to Connecticut where both of his daughters were born. They moved
to the Houston area in 1980 where he joined a fellowship of believers to worship together. His
family later became faithful members of IPC Hebron Houston in 1988. He considered IPC
Hebron his church family, and was a member there for 35 years.
He truly valued the friendships he made through church and work over the decades. Everyone
knew his life’s priority was God and family. In his free time, he liked to garden Indian
vegetables, read all types of biblical reference books, and work on his car. Samuel had a sharp
wit, a deep commitment to his values, and most importantly, a prayerful spirit.
He was a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather. On December 31, 2023, with his family at
his side, he was peacefully called to be with the Lord. He leaves behind his wife of over 49
years, Aleyamma, and his children, Rachel and her husband Edward with their children Andrew
(17) and Michael (13); Lisa and her husband Binay, and their children Jake (15), Mason (9), and
Ava (7). He is also survived by his older brother John Philip and wife Lily, his younger sister
Saramma Thomas, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was a blessing to those who knew
him and will be dearly missed.
