Mrs. Ruth Ellen Smith's Obituary
Ruth Ellen Dean Smith entered into the loving arms of our Lord on November 23, 2019 at the age of 84 years old. She was born in Strong Arkansas on October 15, 1935 to Mayme Nora and Ferris Powell Dean and is preceded in death by her parents, sister Vicki Lynn Dean Johnson and brother Herschel Dean.
Ruth graduated from Nederland High School in 1953 and briefly attended Lamar College. While at Lamar she worked at a shoe store and was responsible for making daily bank deposits. It was during one of her visits to the bank that she caught the eye of Barney Smith who quickly took notice and decided she was the one for him. After watching her for several days, he decided to ask her out for coffee, she agreed and the rest is history. Barney fell in love with her beautiful green eyes, infectious smile and loving heart. She always brightened the atmosphere when she walked in a room and they married a short time later on her birthday, October 15, 1954.
Ruth had many passions including love for family, baking cookies for her grandkids, playing board games with them, listening to music and traveling with Barney in their RV. Some of her favorite musicians were Tommy Edwards, The Eagles, Roy Orbison and KT Oslin.
Ruth joined Sagemont Church in the late 90's and loved being a part of their four by four dinner group and Bible Study classes. She treasured her church family very much and had a passion to praying for others and learning about Christ.
Ruth is survived by her loving husband of 65 years and her 3 children - Brenda Gail Weber wife of Randy Weber, Barney Elton Smith III husband of Valerie Smith and Sheri Lynn Dodd wife of Billy Dodd. Ruth had five grandchildren, Kristin Rowe wife of Derrick Rowe, Keith Weber husband of Emily Weber, Kyle Weber, husband of Jessica Weber, Lauren White wife of Jeff White and David Smith husband of Adrienne Smith. Ruth also had 8 great grandchildren, Madison, Maci and Mitchell Rowe, Weston and Sloane Weber and Kate, Preston and Kennedy Weber.
The Smith family will be holding visitation November 29, 5-7pm at South Park Funeral Home in Pearland Texas.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday November 30, 11:00am at Sagemont Church followed by a procession from the church to Graveside Services back to South Park Funeral Home.
