Mr. Roy Emerson Howard Jr.'s Obituary
Roy E. Howard, Jr., age 93 and a longtime resident of Houston, went to be with the Lord on the 4th of January, 2012. Mr. Howard was born in Decatur, Illinois on December 2, 1918 to Roy E. Howard, Sr. and Anna F. Smith. He is preceded in death by his sisters Estella H. Johnson and Lois H. Register, and his brother Dr. Charles J. Howard, M.D. Roy is survived by his wife of 71 years, Ruth S. Howard, son Roy E. Howard, III and his wife Kathy, grandchildren Roy E. Howard, IV and his wife Laura, John D. Howard, Kimberly B. Howard, Scott D. Howard and many nieces and nephews.
Roy graduated from Sam Houston High School in 1936, and Rice University in 1943 with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering. His career included the U.S. Corps of Engineers, Transcontinental Gas Pipeline Company, M.G.O. (the Venezuelan subsidiary of Gulf Oil Co.), and Brown & Root.
Mr. Howard was a longtime member and Deacon of Memorial Drive Baptist Church. He later joined Houston First Baptist Church, served as an Usher and was an active member of his Sunday School class. Roy enjoyed woodworking as a hobby, designing and creating many beautiful pieces of furniture.
Visitation will be at the SouthPark Funeral Home, 1310 North Main Street, Pearland, Texas 77581, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm Friday, January 6, 2012. Funeral Services will be held at the SouthPark Funeral Home at 2:30 pm on Saturday, January 7, 2012 with final internment at the adjoining cemetery.
