Roy Lopez Castillo's Obituary
Roy Lopez Castillo, born on January 6, 1937, in Houston, Texas, was called into the caring arms of the Lord on July 7, 2025.
Roy was a shining light in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him. His journey on this earth was one of love of family and friends, unwavering faith in God, and freedom to be great and do great things. His passing has left a void in the hearts of his family, friends, and many more whose lives were touched by him. We ask that you remember him not for the way his life ended, but for the way it was lived, and for the profound impact it had on the lives of those who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Preceded in death by his parents Jose and Juanita Castillo, Roy is survived by his loving wife of 63 years Frances Casillo, his sons and daughters, Michael Garza, Roy Castillo (Virginia), Ronnie Castillo (Sandra), Lisa Layfield (James), Mona Holtkamp (Lance), Regina Castillo and Eric Castillo. He also leaves behind a legacy of wonderful grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A standout in the band, Roy graduated from Jeff Davis High School and went on to serve our great nation in the United States Army as a rifleman. He then returned home and began a long and distinguished career in the Houston Coca Cola Bottling Company where he retired after 34 years.
As a member of the St. Helen Knights of Columbus, Roy was able to serve the community with his dedication to his faith and his desire to bring light to those in need, the epitome of his joyful and generous nature.
Roy found joy in music and spent a lifetime playing for people in many different venues and events around the state. A talented saxophone player, and original member of Los Muchachos, Roy performed on television, recorded music, and was inducted into the Texas Music Hall of Fame Tejano Legends. His music touched the hearts and souls of many people.
Those who knew Roy will remember him for his infectious smile and overwhelming laughter, his deep-rooted faith in Jesus and his unwavering commitment to spreading love and kindness to everyone he encountered. He has a rare gift for making others smile and laugh, leaving a lasting impact on all who crossed his path.
The Celebration of Life services to honor Roy Lopez Castillo will begin with a viewing held on Thursday, July 17, 2025, at 6PM at Southpark Funeral Home in Pearland, followed by a rosary at 7PM. On Friday, July 18, 2025, at 10AM, a Mass will be held at St. Helen Catholic Church, Pearland, followed by graveside services at Southpark Funeral Home.
The family would like to invite everyone to St. Helena Hall, at St. Helen Catholic Church, for a reception and gathering of family and friends, after the graveside services. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests any donations to Pearland Independent School District-PHS Oiler Band at Pearland Band Donate, https://pearlandband.org. This will continue Roy's service to his country, his community, and lifelong love of music, touching hearts and continuing his legacy of Faith, Family, and Freedom.
Although Roy's physical presence may no longer grace our lives, his spirit is well with us all and will continue to inspire and guide us, carrying us through life's rough roads and appreciating time and moments with family and friends. May his memory be always a blessing, and may we carry forth his lessons of love and compassion in all that we do.
