Rosie Barta
Rosie Regina Pawelek Barta, 92, of Pearland, Texas, entered into eternal rest on January 2, 2020. Rosie was born on September 3, 1927 in Panna Maria, Texas, the oldest Polish settlement in the United States, to Felix and Florence Pawelek. She was the seventh of fourteen children and was preceded in death by a baby son, her parents and twelve siblings.
Rosie is survived by her beloved husband of 69 years, John F. Barta, and sons, John Edward Barta and wife, Susan, and Gary Barta; daughter Regina Irish and husband, Barry; grandchildren Kathryn Barta, Jeff Byers and Sarah Irish; great-grandson Baylor Byers; sister Emma Jasik and numerous nieces and nephews.
Rosie and John were married in 1950 in Jourdanton, Texas. They moved to Bay City, Texas in 1952 and in 1963 moved their family to Pearland, Texas where they were active in the establishment of St. Helen Catholic Church. Throughout the years, Rosie and John served the parish through volunteer and charity work and made many friends in the community. Rosie served many years on the St. Helen Bazaar, Altar and Funeral Meal Committees, and was a devoted member of the Catholic Daughters. She was always there to help anyone, in any capacity, and was fondly thought of by all who knew her.
Rosie retired from the Pearland School District in 1990 after 25 years on the Food Service staff. She loved to cook and bake with her family favorites being her kolaches and meringue pies. She enjoyed tending to her yard and growing flowers.
She was a woman of great faith, a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Her family was the center of her life. She will be forever missed.
The family deeply appreciates all of the love and support Rosie and John's neighbors and friends have provided throughout the years.
