Obituary for Rosendo José Hernandez*
Rosendo José Hernandez, age 82, of Alvin, Texas, passed away peacefully surrounded by family. He was born on August 18, 1942, in Corpus Christi, Texas, to the late Modesto Gonzalez Hernandez and Juanita Marroquin Hernandez of Corpus Christi, Texas.
Rosendo, known by those who knew and loved him well as “Vito” and/or “Ross”, proudly served his country by enlisting in the United States Air Force on June 8, 1961. He served with distinction as a basic airman, completing a one-year campaign in Vietnam, where he faced and survived active combat. After four years of dedicated service, Rosendo was honorably discharged as a Senior Airman.
Following his military career, Rosendo began a successful career in the oil industry, where he worked for over 25 years. In the latter part of his career, he retired from Crown Central in 1996, leaving a lasting legacy of hard work and dedication.
Rosendo was a loving son, brother, husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is survived by his two sisters, Enedina Garza of Corpus Christi, Texas and Eloisa Miller of Dallas, Texas, as well as two brother(s)-in-law. His devoted wife and the love of his life, Carmen Salazar Hernandez, of Alvin Texas and his six children: Roland Joseph Hernandez and his wife Melissa Hernandez, Marcus Anthony Hernandez and his wife Sophia Hernandez, Rita Ann Hamburg and her husband Kevin Hamburg, Rosendo (“Joey”) Jose Hernandez II and his wife Heather Lee, Kristal Inez Hernandez Wilson and her husband, Buki Wilson, and Gregory Martin Hernandez and his wife Camielle Hernandez.
He was a proud grandfather to ten grandchildren, two grandsons-in-law, one step-grandson, and two great-grandchildren. Rosendo is also remembered fondly by his many nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members, as well as many friends and neighbors.
He will live on through our memories and the countless lives he touched with his humor, wisdom, and love. Rosendo will be deeply missed, but his legacy of service, hard work, and devotion to his family will never be forgotten.
A memorial service/viewing will be held on Monday, September 30th, at 5 p.m. at South Park Funeral Home, 1310 N Main St, Pearland, TX 77581. A Mass will be held at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Alvin, Texas, on October 1st at 10 a.m., with the burial to follow at South Park Funeral Home in Pearland, Texas, at noon.
