Mr. Ronald W. Gillaspie's Obituary
Ronald Wayne Gillaspie 65, born on July 19, 1952 in Whitney, TX went to be with the Lord on December 27, 2017 in Houston, TX.
During the 1970’s Ronnie served in The United States Air Force as a Special Vehicle Mechanic. During his time in service he mainly toured throughout parts of Southeast Asia. Ronnie was very proud of the time he spent in the Air Force and often had a great story to tell about his experiences.
After his time in the service Ronnie found his second passion in life, truck driving. He traveled through almost every state in the nation making friends all along the way. Trucking continued to be a constant in his life as he moved into his new career as a Safety Director. Ronnie worked in the safety industry for over 30 years and earned numerous awards for his efforts. He was awarded the Joe Atkinson Award for the Safety Professional of the Year in 1995 from The Houston Council of Safety Professionals. He also received the Distinguished Safety Award in 1996 from The Texas Motor Transportation Association, Safety Management Council. Finally in 2015 Ronnie was awarded the Pathfinder Award acknowledging his more than 30 years of dedicated leadership service to the TXTA Safety Management Council. Ronnie spent 26 years of his career in the trucking industry with Ray Bellew and Sons and 10 years with Palletized Trucking where he made lifelong friendships at each.
Ronnie was preceded in death by his Father Windell Gillaspie, his mother Jean Williams and his brother Dennis Gillaspie. Ronnie is survived by his wife of 30 wonderful years Rosalie Gillaspie of Pearland, TX. His son Kenneth Gillaspie and wife, Jennifer Gillaspie of Burleson, TX and their children; Anthony, Logan, Guy and Allison. His daughter Raychel Gillaspie and husband Sean Sullivan of Pearland, TX. His Step-Father Richard Williams of Kopperl, TX. His brother Larry Gillaspie and wife Teresa Gillaspie of Alvarado, TX. He also leaves behind his many extended family and friends which he loved dearly.
The family would like to give a special thanks on behalf of Ronnie to the Bellew and Hart family for their life long love, friendship and support. Also a special thank you to Dr. P. V. Balakrishnan and Dr J. Roosth who cared for Ronnie throughout the years.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at 1:45PM with the Funeral Service starting at 2:30PM. All services will be held at SouthPark Funeral Home & Cemetery in Pearland, TX.
