Mr. Ronald "Ronnie" Allison's Obituary
ALLISON
Ronald Chester Allison, "Ronnie", age 60, passed away on June 24, 2011. He is survived by his two sons, Chris, Jonnie and wife Sarah, and his granddaughter Kylee. Other survivors include his brother Gary and numerous nieces and nephews, and a host of other family and friends. Ronnie was born on April 29th, 1951 in Houston, Texas and was the second son for Glenice and Chester Allison and the only sibling to Gary Allison. Ronnie inherited his love of baseball from his mom. By the time he was 13 years old he was a star pitcher and batter. He would strike out many of the players and hit the ball past the field lights for home runs frequently, especially when there was a girl in the stands he wanted to impress. Ronnie graduated from Jesse H. Jones High School in 1969 and married his high school sweetheart, Bette Ehmling, in August 1970. They had their first child, Chris, in May 1972 and their second son, Jonnie, in June 1984. Children were attracted to Ronnie. Children from the neighborhood would knock on the door and ask "Can Mr. Ronnie come out to play?" and many times he would. Of course he would bring one of his own sons out to play with them. Babies loved Ronnie, and Ronnie loved babies. We are not sure which one came first. We do know that the first love affair was when Leslie Eslinger was brought home from the hospital, and Ronnie held her in one hand. That's how it all began. From then on, there were many a time that a mother would call Ronnie and ask for him to come and put their baby to sleep as they had been trying for hours. All it would take was for Ronnie to take the babies in his arms, place them on his chest, and rub their heads. He had that special touch. They could hear that big heart beating, feel his touch, and know that they were loved. What better sleep potion could there be? Ronnie had a career in sales most of his adult life with the majority being in the battery industry. He had his own battery company for a short period of time before illness prevented him from working. Ronnie is also remembered for his abilities to tell a great story, to barbecue, to make friends easily, to laugh, joke and play. Visitation begins Thursday at 5:30 p.m., followed by a service at 7 p.m. in the Chapel of SouthPark Funeral Home.
