Roland Michael Mares' Obituary
Roland Michael “Don Rolando” Mares, a long-time resident of the Houston and Pasadena area passed away unexpectedly on 9/11/2022 in Houston Texas.
Roland was born on May 23, 1986, in Galveston Texas, in his youth he was loyal, always kept a secret and aided in keeping his big sisters out of trouble. Roland kept developing traits as a protector throughout his short but ever memorable life. His generosity was unmatched, he always provided love and security for those close to him, family as well as friends. If you had the privilege of knowing Roland, then you knew what it was like to have a true friend and feel loved. Roland was driven in all avenues of life, if he had a plan, he was going to complete it, using intelligence and grit Roland would always accomplish any goal. Due to his life being cut short he had unaccomplished goals, but all who know Roland he would have succeeded. Roland was extremely gifted in all disciplines of barbecue, it was very much his passion, and you could see the pleasure it gave him. If he did not receive a call in a cook off, it would drive him to do better and hone his skills even more, always improving. Although barbecuing was so very important to him, this was unmatched to the way he felt about his most special and precious jewel of all his wife Nellie whom he loved so very much. Other interests Roland enjoyed were road tripping, working his way through Texas to complete the top 50 BBQ restaurants list, vacationing as frequently as possible, owning classic cars or trucks, throwing huge extravaganzas, and he enjoyed all adventures displaying his “No Pasa Nada” lifestyle.
