Robert Louis Rivera's Obituary
Robert Louis Rivera Sr, age 82 of Houston entered into eternal rest on December 1st, 2021. He was born on July 8th, 1939 in El Campo, Texas to Abel and Hermina Rivera
Robert married the love of his life Alicia Ruiz on July 2nd, 1965. After being drafted to serve in the US Army during 1963 to 1965, where he spent most of his time stationed in Germany. They created a wonderful life with their four children in Jacinto City. Robert retired after 32 and half years of service as a Machinist for Camco Incorporated. As a boy he admired his father, from picking cotton with him, to helping him around the house. Robert was instilled with a great work ethic and a love for family. He loved to work with his hands and not afraid to get dirty. Robert enjoyed working on things, tinkering in his garage. working on his vehicles or offering a helping hand to get things right. One thing for sure is you better keep that spotlight straight while he worked or heard him clear when he asked for a tool. Robert was one of a kind, a voice like no other. He was a good man that provided for his family and always made sure they were taking care of. Robert loved his "Honita" as he called her. Their life is one that others look up to and admire. A prime example of true love. The life they created is one you hear of and hardly see in the flesh. Four amazing children and 11 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Robert and Alice were two peas in a pod, always together. Rather it be out to eat at the Rio now known as Blanquitas, at family gatherings, with friends or at the casinos. There was no Robert without Alice or Alice without Robert. Robert enjoyed his coffee and water, and reading the newspaper. He had a routine, and went by it everyday. Robert took pride in his family and beamed with fulfillment, he loved all his children, grand children and great grandchildren. He acknowledged their victories, followed by the heavy hand pat on the back. All the birthdays, holidays and gatherings he was there, with a smile on his face. He always had stories to tell especially when he was in the military, where he became a expert Marksman and despised the snow after being stationed in Germany the winter, and meeting his life long compadre Joe Olivarez. And of his childhood, picking cotton as a boy in El Campo, he was the best story teller. Robert had the best advice, and always knew how to fix things. He would lend an ear and like to hear what you had to say. When visiting, you would see him working on his cars, in his garage, on the patio or inside sitting at the kitchen table or on his recliner watching the news or maybe even having a cat nap. Robert had numerous cousins, compadres, and friends, he enjoyed everyone's company. He had a big heart and loved hard. His Honita was his world and his children. His grandchildren and great children had a special place in his heart.
As Frank Sinatra says
"I'll state my case of which I'm certain
I've lived a life that's full
I've travelled each and every highway
And more, much more than this
I did it my way."
We will miss him very much, he was the best husband, Father, Papoo and Great Papoo. We love you.
