Mr Robert Koger's Obituary
Robert E. "Bob" Koger passed away September 26, 2009. He was 101 years old. Bob was born January 12, 1908 in Valley Head, Alabama.
He was one of ten children raised on the family farm on Lookout Mountain, Georgia. After the death of his father, Bob quit school at 10 years old to work on the farm.
Bob had the "Cowboy Spirit", not just because he could ride a horse and handle cattle, but because he was willing to take a chance. He moved to Texas in the early thirties with no job and no place to stay. The first job he landed paid ten dollars a week. From those humble beginnings, he became a Master Plumber, cattleman, and real estate investor. He retired as a Plumbing Inspector for the City of Houston. He served as a Navy Seabee during World War II and was a proud member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. After Bob's service in the Navy, his dedication to the military continued by serving twenty years as a volunteer at the Veteran's Administration Hospital in Houston. Bob was a member of Park Place Masonic Lodge. Together, he and his son became Master Masons on December 21, 1976. He was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church, serving on the Board of Directors of two churches and was currently a member of Friendswood United Methodist Church. Bob was happiest when working hard and had little time for those who did otherwise. He loved family, friends, farming, raising cattle, and talking politics and baseball. He is preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Katherine. Survived by twin daughters Jean Anderson of Huntsville, AL, June Wheeler and husband Harry of Whiting, NJ; son, Bruce Koger and wife Barbara of Friendswood, TX; ten grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations may be made to Friendswood United Methodist Church, 110 Friendswood Drive, Friendswood, TX 77546.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Friendship Haven for their care of Bob in his final months.
