Mr. Robert Drew Darney's Obituary
Robert Drew Darney was born on November 13, 1931, in Mount Pleasant, Michigan, to Robert P. Darney and Frances M. Hammond. He passed away on October 23, 2012, in Pearland, Texas. Due to his father working in the oil industry, his family moved several times and finally settled in Longview, Texas where they called home. After graduation, he was drafted into the U.S. Marine Corps where he served from 1953-1956, being honorably discharged as a Sergeant. He married the love of his life, Mary Leonard, on May 14, 1954, in Reno, Nevada. Robert and Mary had two children, Dianne and Claire. He is preceded in death by his parents and his loving wife of 41 years. Robert is survived by his two daughters, their husbands and four grandchildren: Dianne and Don Long with children, Drew and Payton; Claire and Lester Carter with children, Andrea and Christopher. After college, he began a career as a mechanical engineer, primarily in the aeronautical industry. Robert retired in 1996 with over 35 years as a draftsman and engineer. He enjoyed traveling "especially to Colorado", keeping in touch with his friends and continuing his great love of the German Shepherd. Over the years, Robert had many German Shepherds of which Jackson shared his last 9 years and accompanied him to most destinations.
