Mr. Robert C. Bierscheid, Sr.'s Obituary
Robert (Bob) Charles Bierscheid, Sr. passed away Tuesday, May 31, 2016 in Pasadena, Texas. Bob was born in 1929 to Gaylord Bierscheid and Margarite Rose Bierscheid Arend of St. Paul, Minnesota. Bob married Mary Delilah (Lila) Winter in 1955 in Charleston, South Carolina.
Bob and Lila moved to Pasadena in 1961 to raise their four children where he worked as an FAA supervisor in air traffic control. Bob was a founding member of American Legion Post 521 Memorial Team that performs military honors for veteran services. He was a veteran of WWII having served as an Army paratrooper. He was also a Navy veteran of the Korean War.
Bob and Lila helped found the Greater Houston Chapter of Autistic Children in the 1960s and remained actively involved in bringing awareness of autism.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings Dorothy Bierscheid and Frank Arend, and his beloved Lila. He is survived by his children Robert Charles Bierscheid, Jr. (Bob) and his wife, Kay, Ann Gross and her husband, Richard, Sandra Begalke, Richard Bierscheid; grandchildren Sam Shuler, C.J. Bierscheid, Sonny Reil and his wife, Jamie, Danny Kowalski and his wife, Kim, Lori Zambarano, Steve Golab and his wife, Shawna, Staci Thurwalker, Ashley Gross, Jessica Perez and her husband, Paul; great grandchildren Chase McCauley, Dillon Kowalski, Weston Kowalski, Ava Golab, Alexa Thurwalker, Ross Thurwalker, and Bentleigh Perez; siblings Bill Arend and his wife, Liz, Martin Arend and his wife, Susan, and Margaret Jensen; his extended and loved Winter family in South Carolina, and his close friends Lynne and Joe Garlowich, and Nathan Curry.
A celebration of Bob’s life will be held Monday, June 6, 2016 at 3 pm at South Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 1310 N. Main St, Pearland, Texas. Visitation will be Sunday, June 5 from 4 to 7 pm at South Park Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Legion Post 521 Memorial Team, 2221 Preston, Pasadena, Texas, 77503.
