Richard Lee Gilbert's Obituary
.Richard Lee (Dick) Gilbert went home to heaven to be with his Lord Jesus Christ on Friday morning December
8, 2023. He was 91 years young at the time of his death.
Dick was born at his family’s home in Houston, Texas on Oct 8, 1932. He was a lifelong Houstonian and
attended Milby High school in Houston. While attending the University of Houston, he met the love of his life,
Betty Jo Randall Gilbert. They were married on January 28, 1953, and were happily married for more than 63
years.
Dick was a faithful, lifelong servant of his Lord Jesus Christ. He loved to tell others the Good News of Jesus the
Savior. He was a leader in his beloved PCA churches, as an elder, a bible study teacher and a leader in
evangelism. He and Mom were founding members of Faith Community PCA church in Pearland.
He earned a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Houston. He retired from Brown &
Root in 1988 at the age of 55 after 33 years of service. After retirement, he took an unpaid staff position at his
church to serve as the leader of the church’s outreach and evangelism ministry.
Dick was a family man, valuing his family above all things other than his Lord Jesus. He was Mom’s primary
caregiver during her last eight years. At a great personal sacrifice, he made good on his promise to allow Betty
to continue to live in their home. He exemplified the words of Jesus, “Greater love has no one than this, that
he lay down his life for his friends.”
Dick’s family includes his children Katye Kole and husband James, Gail Fuller and husband Jim, Richard T
Gilbert and wife Dianne. He has six grandchildren, Amy Fuller, Tim Milligan, Chris Milligan, Jeff Milligan, Travis
Gilbert and James Gilbert. He has thirteen great grandchildren, Whitney, Ellie, Kate, Skyler, Cash, Keller,
Wyatt, Matthew, Daniel M, Emma, Noah, Daniel G and Katherine. He is also survived by his brother Larry
Gilbert. He was preceded in death by his wife Betty, his brother Raymond Gilbert, his sister Sue Barker and his
sister Jeanine Clark.
