Mr. Richard G. Fenner's Obituary
Richard George Fenner, 79, died July 3, 2011 at Houston Hospice. A resident of Houston, Texas for 50 years, Richard was born December 3, 1931 in Victoria, TX to George Henry Fenner and Othelia Albrecht Fenner. He is preceded in death by his parents. Richard is survived by his wife, Gwendolyn Geffert Fenner, of 59 years and children, Melissa Gail Byrd and husband Steve of Midland, TX; Bret Wayne Fenner and his fiance Lori Cottingham of Austin, TX; and Traci Lynn Rothermund of Carrollton, TX; and grandchildren, Michelle Bose and husband Jason, Stephen Byrd, and Shannon Byrd all of Midland, TX; Stephanie Fadal and husband Chris of Waco, TX; Ean, Hadley, and Paige Rothermund of Carrollton, TX; and great-grandchildren, Madison and McKenzie Bose of Midland, TX. He is also survived by his brother, Donald Glenn Fenner of Vienna, Austria and sister-in-law, Audrey Geffert of Victoria along with numerous other loving family members and friends. Richard graduated from Victoria High School and attended the University of Texas, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. He was a member of the Texas Air National Guard and retired as a Colonel from the Air Force Reserves after 30 years of service. His first job as an engineer was with Collins Radio in Dallas, TX. He then moved to Houston to work for Southwest Industrial Electronics and then Lockheed Electronics. He retired after 31 years with NASA Johnson Space Center as a test engineer and project manager of the Lunar module for the Apollo program.
Richard will be remembered for his love of fishing and tinkering with radios. He was an avid amateur radio operator and enjoyed many lunches and conventions with friends from his HAM radio operator group, NASA, Air National Guard, German Society, Chamber of Commerce Fun Bunch and Ace in the Hole friends.
