Rex Eugene Sanders' Obituary
Rex Eugene Sanders
July 18, 1941-October 12,2024
Rex was born in Rocky Ford, Colorado on July 18, 1941. He was a PK (pastor’s kid) for the majority of his life. He attended Bartlesville Wesleyan College until Uncle Sam called him to the army where he served 2 years. He came to Houston in 1969 and walked from the bus station in downtown Houston to the old radio station of KHCB off Almeda Road. This is where he began a 50 year career of sharing the gospel over the air to thousands of people. In 1972, he met and married Karen Eason. They were blessed with 2 children, Diane and David. He retired from KHCB in 2019 due to his poor health and inability to walk. He spent the remaining days of his life in nursing homes in Ganado and Port Lavaca. The Lord called him home on October 12,2024.
Rex was preceded in death by his father Roscoe Sanders, mother Cecil Sanders, sister Shirley Berkgren, and granddaughter Brianna Hart. He leaves behind his wife of 52 years, Karen Sanders, daughter Diane Hart ( Micheal), David Sanders (Anna), grandchildren Zachary Hart, Arianne Hart, Nicolas Hart, Oliver Sanders, Henry Sanders and sister, Gaylene Wright ( Dale) and brother – in – law Garry Berkgren, along with many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to KHCB. Rex spent 50 years of service on the staff. Until the day he passed onto glory he loved the opportunity he had of sharing the word of God on the air.
