Rebecca Noemi Gonzalez's Obituary
Rebecca Noemi (Herrera) Gonzalez, Becky, 68, entered eternal rest Sunday, January 16, 2022, after a sudden battle with brain cancer with her loving family by her side. She was born in Alice, Texas, on May 10, 1953, to Christel D. Herrera and Andrea Ybarra Herrera. She was a loving daughter, sister, aunt,
cousin, wife, mother, stepmother, mother-in-law, grandmother, and friend.
Becky graduated from Alice High School in 1971. She attended Texas A&I University, Kingsville, pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Early Childhood Development. Becky was an educator at heart. She began her career as a director of a childcare center and an educator at San Jacinto Junior College
South, Houston, Texas, teaching a Child Development/Early Childhood Education course. She enjoyed taking the school children on field trips to museums, NASA, the Rainforest in the Houston-Galveston Metro area to expand their minds and experiences.
Becky married Mauricio Armando Gonzalez on July 28, 1979. She will be remembered for the love and unwavering support she gave her children. Her grandchildren will remember their Nana fondly for how she loved them. When given the opportunity, Becky and Mauricio would travel with her brother Chris of
Georgia to visit family in Texas. She was artistic, crafty, and creative in her projects. She was an avid Houston Astros and Houston Texans fan. Becky will be missed for her welcoming manner, laughter, attention to detail, and compassion. Her life was well-lived, and she will be greatly missed.
She is preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Christel Carlos (infant), Ernesto (Neto) Herrera, Homero (Corky) Herrera; sister, Cecilia (Cissy Herrera) Ramos; sisters-in-law, Elena V. Herrera, and Gracie M. Herrera.
Becky is survived by her spouse of 42 years, Mauricio A. Gonzalez of Pasadena, Texas; sons, Christel A. (Cathy Klassen) Gonzalez, of Victoria, Texas; Mauricio (Jannette Garcia) Gonzalez, of Pasadena, Texas; Rick (Mary Villarreal) Gonzalez, of Raymondville, Texas; one daughter Melinda Gonzalez, of Alice,
Texas; two brothers, Mario A. Herrera, of Alice, Texas; and Christel (Isabel Laurente) Herrera, Jr., of Kennesaw, Georgia; one sister, Mellie (David) Smithwick, of Alice, Texas.
Six grandchildren, who stole her heart, survive Nana Becky. The grandchildren are Andrea Jacqueline and Alex John Gonzalez, of Victoria, Texas; Penelope Amor Gonzalez, Bambi Garcia, and Joseph Vega, of Pasadena, Texas; Liana Gonzalez, of Raymondville, Texas. Other survivors include one uncle, Joel D.
Herrera, of Flower Mound, Texas; sister-in-law, Mamie G. Herrera, of Houston, Texas; brother-in-law, Hector Ramos, of Harlingen, Texas; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Thursday, January 27, 2022, at the South Park Funeral Home, 1310 N. Main Street, Pearland, Texas 77581, 281-485-2711. Rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. that evening by Deacon Freddy Ramirez, of St. Frances Cabrini Parish. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated by Rev. Nicolas Ramirez, Pastor, at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, January 28, 2022, at Saint Frances Cabrini Catholic Church, 10727 Hartsook St., Houston, Texas, 77034, 713-946-5768. Family and friends are asked to gather at the church. Services will end at the church.
Active Pallbearers are Becky’s sons Christel A. and Mauricio A. Gonzalez; family friends Victor Andrade and Javier Fernandez; and nephews Danny Herrera, and D. Addison Smithwick. Honorary Pallbearers are Becky’s grandchildren Andrea J. Gonzalez, Alex John Gonzalez, Liana Gonzalez, Penelope Amor Gonzalez, Bambi Garcia, and Joseph Vega.
