Mr. Raymond Scarborough's Obituary
Raymond L. Scarborough, 72, passed away on January 12, 2013 in the The Woodlands, Texas. Ray was born August 23, 1940 in Houston, Texas to Geraldine and Raymond Lewis Scarborough. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Tommy Varner Scarborough; wife of 10 years, Kathy Scarborough and his precious Dalmatian companion, Puzzle. Ray was a graduate of Austin High School in Houston before attending and earning degrees in Teaching and Social Sciences from The University of Texas. While there, he was a member of and also served as President of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. Following his graduation from college Ray went to try his hand at acting in New York, after realizing that while he was gifted in the arts he wanted to see the world as much as he wanted the world to see him and so he put his acting career on hold and went to work for Pan Am Airlines where he had the opportunity to work and see the world. When Ray was finally ready to plant his roots, he moved back to Texas and followed in his family's footsteps and began his teaching career. He spent over 25 years in the Klein ISD before retiring in 2005. During the span he was a drama teacher and social studies teacher at Klein Forest High School for ten years, Assistant Principal at Hildebrandt Intermediate School for seven years and Assistant Principal at Klein Forest High School for eight years. During his career with the Klein ISD Ray was admired by his peers and students alike not only for his dedication to education but also for his love of the theater. Never losing the acting bug Ray continued to ply his skills on stage while teaching playing roles in productions such as Camelot, Anything Goes, The Mouse that Roared and Twelve Angry Men with the Northwoods Repertory Company and the Gilbert and Sullivan Society. In recognition of his service to the School District and the community on December 14, 2004, the Board of Trustees for the Klein ISD proclaimed that January 5, 2005 be Ray Scarborough Day. That honor could not have been bestowed upon a more deserving individual who had spent the better part of his adult life seeing to the education and personal development of the children of the Klein ISD. He is survived by his sister, Jerry Jo Scarborough Adams; niece, Sherry Garman and husband, Kerry and daughter, Alexis; nephews, Mark Adams and wife, Paula, Brian Adams and his son, Jake and Jeffery Scarborough and wife, Kris along with many other cousins and relatives from the Varner side of his family. Raymond Ellisor, a friend since kindergarten, will conduct the service.
