Mr. Raymond G. Parker's Obituary
Raymond G. Parker lost his battle with cancer on May 4th, 2012. He is survived by his wife and partner of 40 years, Sharon "Sammy" Parker, by son Jason Parker, daughters Jamie Parker and Christy Miller, grandsons Logan and Owen Parker, granddaughter Madelyn Parker, and sisters Marie Scanlin and Margaret Griffin,. Ray grew up in Pasadena TX, and graduated from Allen Military Academy in 1967. He went on to serve in the United States Army and was stationed in Fort Hood for a short period before returning to Houston. Ray spent many years as a computer analyst, making close friends with those at companies including Wal-Mart, IBM, Superior Oil Co, and Mobil. Ray was an avid fisherman, and loved being on the water with his family and friends. He was a man who knew what he wanted and sacrificed much to help others whenever needed. Ray was a man of many words, whose stories will not be forgotten. Although he found plenty of mischief in his youth - and we all have those amazing stories, he managed to create an unforgettable life for his family and friends. Memories filled with fishing trips to Port O' Conner, hunting in west Texas, bowling after church on Sunday, and baseball in the front yard. Ray had a unique sense of humor and often referred to himself as rubber-duck, which he enjoyed using on numerous occasions. He was a lifetime member of The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo and a member of the Recycling Committee for over the last decade. Ray was a loved man, and he will be greatly missed by all who had the honor and privilege to know him. A Celebration of Raymond's Life will be held Wednesday, May 9, 2012 at 12:30 p.m. in The Chapel of SouthPark Funeral Home. A gathering of friends and family will take place from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday May 8, 2012 in The Chapel SouthPark Funeral Home, with a Rosary Service beginning at 7:00 p.m. An Angler's Prayer
I pray that I may fish until my dying day,
and, when it comes to my last cast;
I then most humbly pray,
when in the Lord's great landing net
and peacefully asleep;
that in His mercy I be judged
big enough to keep.
