Mr. Raul Francisco Aponte's Obituary
Raul Francisco Aponte died in his home in Houston, Texas on April 19, 2013, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Panama City, Panama, December 26, 1921, the only child of Francisco Aponte and Calixta Morales.
He obtained a bachelor degree in education at Kansas State College in Pittsburgh, Kansas and a Masters degree from The University of Chicago. Later on he pursued studies in school administration at The University of Reading in England. His long career in Education involved the development of vocational school programs, his role as a princi[al of junior high and high schools, and his work as a professor of Education at the University of Panama.
After his retirement he moved to the United States to be close to his daughters and his grandchildren. A devoted family man, he enjoyed doting on his grandchildren and participated actively in their lives. He was a lover of music and the humanities, algebra, and all things French. He believed in democracy and the teachings of the Catholic faith and practiced both.
"Papi" is survived by Xenia his love and wife of sixty years, his three daughters Miriam and her husband Charles Cleveland, Xenia and her husband Juan A. Bethancourt, Heidi and her husband Barry Battle; his grandchildren, Raul Bethancourt, Jonathan Cleveland, Xenia Bethancourt, Celeste Cleveland, Benjamin Battle, Brandon Battle, and Calixta Battle.
A memorial service will be held at St. Thomas More Catholic Church 10330 Hillcroft Street, 77096, on Friday April 26, 2013 at 10 am.
