He joined the Air Force in 1948 and was stationed in Okinawa during the Korean War. His last tour of duty was at a small Air Force base south of Chicago where he met and married his wife of 61 years, Mary Johnson, who was also in the Air Force.
Ramon separated from the Air Force in 1952 and moved to Lake Charles, Louisiana to be close to his mother and begin a career as a bricklayer. He laid brick in Florida, Pennsylvania, Missouri, and Louisiana before settling in Houston in 1959 where he lived out his life.
Ramon retired from laying brick in 2000, worked for a Chevron gas station in Pasadena for a few years, and then was a driver for Enterprise Rent a Car from 2007 to January 2012.
Ramon loved sports and coached his sons in Little League Baseball. He was the head coach of the Pan American Little League All Star Baseball Team in 1972 in Pasadena, Texas that won the Texas State Championship. His team came within two victories of playing in the Little League World Series. The Texas State Champions 1972 sign is still on the press box of the Little League Field where Ramon coached. He was very active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Pasadena holding several volunteer leadership positions. He enjoyed working in the Temple in Houston every chance he got. His lifelong hobby was genealogy where he spent countless hours researching his family history.
